Custom Photography Expense

I read something recently about why custom photography is so expensive. Some of the reasons that were listed:

- Your photographer puts in more than an hour of 'shoot time'. There's also drive time, preparation, file handling, sifting and sorting images, custom editing and post processing of images, burning cds/dvds, ...
- The equipment cost for camera lenses, computers, software, hardware, props, ...
- business taxes, accountant fees, office fees, studio fees, internet fees, blog and website fees, ...
- And lastly, that not all photographers know what their doing so you get what you pay for.

I feel it an obligation to comment on this list

- we limit the amount of shoots we do at one time. This gives us more time with our customers and the time for all post processing.
- We offer free travel from Logan to Temple square. I believe that is pretty generous seeing how it takes us about an hour to each of them.
- Our prices are for time. The time we use to shoot and process the photos and if you order prints through us - then the prints would be an extra cost.
- We're a partnership. Joe works very hard with the photos and camera - and I work behind the scenes getting paperwork done and burning the dvds as requested. By splitting the time, we can get more done in the same amount of time.
- We save up for the equipment we get and we only get what we need.
- We do charge a fee for tax purposes, but a few extra dollars is fair because we don't keep it.
- We run our business out of our beautiful home so the fees for accountant, office, and studio are nothing.
I do believe that you do get what you pay for. I know that when we want services that we can't do ourselves that we try to find the best around at the best price. This is what we try to offer. We know what we're doing (it's been over 5 years now) and how to make someone's dollar stretch. We believe in being professional and doing a good job.

The thing that sets Krause Photography apart is that we choose to have this business. This is not our only source of income or our livelihood - so we won't push you into decisions that you aren't ready to make. We love to work with people and help them get the best photos. Why? Because it's fun.
